Joining an ambitious and dynamic project, you will be part of the GP project team in Ghent as a Fire Safety Expert for the complete GP scope. You will handle design follow-up of major installations and work closely with the project managers/engineers and the other discipline experts. Your experience will be key in supporting the team in assuring the engineering quality of the fire safety of this major project.
You join the project’s Engineering team and will lead as an expert the fire safety scope of the complete project, both regarding detection as with the firewater scope.
· As a Fire Safety Expert, you manage and develop the general fire protection philosophy according applicable legislation, norms and standards for the complete project. You provide technical advice to the scope of our project managers and engineers
· You are in charge of managing the fire safety scope, both detection as fire water, with our several EPCM and engineering partners for engineering, construction and commissioning. With an open mind for innovation and critical mind in performing alternative analysis you manage, within the boundaries of regulations, our engineering partner on passive and active fire safety installations.
· You are actively involved in the concept/engineering phase and track that your advice is translated into design basis,, engineering standards, technical specifications and tender documents.
· You determine fire compartmentalization and fire classifications.
· You define the concepts for active systems such as sprinkler installations, fire detection, etc.
· You assist the permit team to give the necessary technical inputs towards the building permit procedures.
· You keep close contact with the 3D BIM coordinator to assure the 2D and 3D master drawings are up to date with the actual status of fire protection deliverables.
· You follow the preparation documents for tendering (plans, measurement statement, technical specifications, …) and evaluate the technical part of the offers.
· You manage the several contractors and engineering partners in order that all fire related installations receive the right technical inspections and legal certifications in time.
· You manage the compilation of all technical documentation of the various projects.
· You communicate constructively and proactively with all relevant stakeholders: the general project coordinator, involved production department representatives, the HSE department, contractors, internal and external fire brigade, insurance auditor, and management.
· You stay informed about the latest developments and technical advancements and optimize existing processes within the team (standardization of specifications, norms, visualization, databases, etc.), via internal and external contacts and other platforms.
o You possess thorough knowledge of fire safety and prevention (A higher course in fire prevention is a significant advantage)
o You are familiar with European (NBN, Basic Standard, etc.) and International (NFPA, S2100 etc.) regulations and standards regarding fire protection.
o You are familiar with Belgian legislation (KB 7/7/94 (annex 6 regarding buildings),… ) regarding fire protection.
o It is a plus to have:
§ Experience in calculating hydraulic extinguishing systems
§ Experience in leading and compiling risk analyses related to fire safety
o You have at least 5 years of professional experience in a similar role
o You have good communication skills and possess a good knowledge of Dutch or are willing to learn it in the short term (multilingualism is a plus)
o You are a team player, have good communication skills, and have the necessary experience in project management
§ You have at least a Master’s degree in Industrial Sciences (Industrial Engineer)
o Safety training (VCA certificate)
o A higher course in fire prevention is a significant advantage
o It is a plus to have a relevant post-academic education or equivalent through experience
o Project language is English
