Our client is building a future-proof laboratory with a flexible and modular working environment that supports multiple teams and is ready for tomorrow’s technologies. The new building will be the center for analytical expertise, bringing together the best methods and equipment. At the same time, a seamless relocation and integration are being prepared. The execution phase will start in 2027, with a state-of-the-art delivery at the end of 2028.

Job details

Function

  • Phase 1 – Analysis, Concept Development & Budget (2026)
    • Review and integrate existing technical and 3D design documents into the planning for the laboratory fit-out.
    • Translate analytical and user requirements into a functional modular laboratory concept (layout, flows, utilities, safety).
    • Prepare cost estimates and investment budgets for the laboratory fit-out.
    • Prepare the annual investment request (planning, scenarios, risk assessments).
  • Phase 2 – Detailed Engineering & Execution (2027-..)
    • Coordinate the detailed engineering of the laboratory with internal engineering departments, utilities, design partners, and suppliers.
    • Plan, monitor, and manage progress using Planisware or similar project management tools.
    • Manage contractors, integrators, and equipment suppliers during installation and commissioning.
    • Ensure compliance with safety (VCA, HSE, regulations) and environmental requirements.
    • Organize FAT/SAT and qualification steps where relevant.
    • Coordinate the phased relocation of three CRD teams to the new laboratory environment.
    • Project management, governance, and communication with stakeholders
  • Responsible for the scope, budget, planning, and quality of the entire laboratory fit-out package.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, resolve issues, and plan scenarios.
  • Report status and key decisions to the hiring manager and stakeholders (CRD, production, engineering, maintenance, HSE).
  • Facilitate workshops and structured decision-making processes with laboratory users and technical teams.
  • Master’s degree in engineering or applied sciences (mechanical engineering, chemical/process engineering, electromechanical engineering, or equivalent).
  • At least several years of experience managing technical or engineering projects (laboratory infrastructure, utilities).
  • Experience in designing and implementing a laboratory is mandatory.
  • Thorough knowledge of technical utilities (HVAC, gases, ventilation, electricity supply, clean utilities). •
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, 3D models, and P&IDs.
  • Knowledge of safety and regulatory frameworks (ATEX is a plus).
  • Excellent command of MS Office and experience with project management tools such as Planisware.
  • Experience with LIMS is a plus.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, capable of leading multidisciplinary teams. •
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Structured, analytical, and able to manage complex situations.
  • Practical, pragmatic, and willing to be frequently on-site, especially during execution.
  • Quality-oriented and safety-conscious.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make well-considered decisions.
  • VCA-VOL required (or willingness to obtain it before the execution phase).
  • Project management certification (PMP, Prince2, …) is a plus.
  • ATEX is a plus. Language skills
  • Fluent Dutch (spoken and written).
  • Good command of English to understand technical documentation and communicate with suppliers/stakeholders.
